During the National Sports Awards 2022 ceremony on 30 November 2022, Shri Sharath Kamal Achanta will be awarded the Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award. Shri Sharath Kamal Achanta is the only player to get the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award this year.
Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is given in the memory of Greatest Hockey Player Major Dhyan Chand. It is the highest sports award in India. The individual or team is selected for the Award for outstanding and exceptional sports performance in the last 4 years by a committee constituted by the Ministry of Sports and Youth. The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Purashkar is given annually to the player. In the years 2008 and 2014, this Award was not given to anyone.
